This is more of a Physics question, but can you guys help? A bus and a bicycle have a head-on collision. Compare the force of impact between the bus and the bicycle; compare the accelerations of the bus and bicycle.

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

Hi! @Achilles_Suana ! Lets suppose the bus has a mass of 10,000kgms and the bicycle approx (with the rider on it) would be 100kg.

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

As you see that they're having an head on collision, the Force of impact would be the Same. What do you think will happen to their acceleration? (Naturally)

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

@Achilles_Suana

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would decrease?

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

LEts go via conservation of momentum m1v1 - m2v2 = (m1 + m2) *V(final)

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

we know that v(final) is almost equal to v1.

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

So the momentum of the bicycle will be 100* ( v2+v(final) )

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

while that of the bus will be almost Zero

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

So after collision, the acceleration of the bicycle increases while that of the bus would be almost zero..:)

Thank you so much!
