Which expression shows the factored form of 20x + 4 ? A. 4(5x + 1) B. 4x + 5x*2 + 2 C. 20x + 4 D. 5(4x + 4)

Nnesha (nnesha):

what are the factors of 4 and 20 ?

OpenStudy (kenialove):

2 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What number is common to both 4 and 20?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. So which one is the greater of those two?

OpenStudy (kenialove):

4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which of those choices shows the 4 factored out?

OpenStudy (kenialove):

What do u mean by factored out ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So say you had 8x + 4. 4 is common to both 4 and 8, so when you factor it out it looks like 4(2x+1). When you multiply 4 and 2x, you get 8x, and when you multiply 4 and 1, you get 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The 4 was factored out (it's outside the parentheses).

OpenStudy (kenialove):

Oh okay .. I knew the answer but I thought I'd be wrong thanks for your help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Np. What answer did you get?

OpenStudy (kenialove):

A. 4(5x + 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There you go :)

OpenStudy (kenialove):

Thanks
