The ninth grade students of a school organized a pancake breakfast, held a karaoke contest, and sold raffle tickets to raise money for a field trip. They raised a total of $1,025. The money raised from the karaoke contest was 3 times the money raised from the breakfast. The money raised from the sale of raffle tickets was $150 less than the money raised from the breakfast. The following equation represents this information, where x is the amount of money raised from the pancake breakfast. x + 3x + (x − 150) = 1025 How much money, in dollars, did the ninth graders raise from the karaoke?

5x-150=1025 5x=1175 x=235 Looks like good setup and good math.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

However, that is how much they made for the breakfast.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i find how much they made for karaoke?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

3rd sentence in the instructions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

''The money raised from the karaoke contest was 3 times the money raised from the breakfast.'' so i need to multiply it by 3..so 705?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yep.
