My friend tried to make an account using my computer and it said I was IP banned??? I've only ever gotten one warning while using this computer and I didn't even get suspended so why would I be IP banned?? I'm so lost
Some people are IP banned for no reason, like me. Tel your friend to use another computer/tablet/phone or other device where she can sign up. This usually has to do with warnings/suspensions but I'm not really that clear on it.
Thanks c:
Im sure she prolly got suspended or community banned or something like that......thats the only way to be ip banned unless it was done by an admin
if it was done by a admin then they wouldnt be able to even get on the site through that IP and most likely as pooja said you where probably community banned without knowledge

This account matches one using the F word and some other fun things, so I am betting those are related to the ban.
Most likely cause is one of the accounts linked to your IP is permanently banned for whatever reason, and by the look of the list that pops up when IP checking you, those are a lot of accounts.
나의 고양이를 너무 귀여워요.
I saw that THOMMY I SAW THAT.
Woe, it says Baby_Bear69 is offline .-.
That's just an occasional bug. But yeah, if an alternate account was banned, that leads to an IP ban.
Leads to a signup ban... which is actually a moderator generated suggestion. So we don't have the signup wars with spammers.
What do you mean @e.mccormick?
Remember the Zalgo accounts? Ha, that was painful.
My suggestion was that when someone is suspended, do not allow new signups from that IP for an hour. What they actually implemented is when an IP is moderator suspended some number of times, it gets signup banned forever.
What do you mean by "signup banned"?
As in they can't make more accounts.
A.K.A IP Banned.
@e.mccormick forever? of as long as one of the accounts is suspended? Usually those fake accounts are permanently suspended.
Banne from making new accounts. This has resulted in many proxies getting signup banned thanks to spammers, etc.
Ohhhh. Okay
Also I'm just wondering, can you still do that thing with the email part where you can make a billion accounts?
I ask lots of questions, sorry XD
thom, it makes it effectivly forever since we can't delete the bad word accounts....
We can unsuspend them. Would that lift the signup ban?
Reviews on that are mixed. I have tried it and had it work and tried it and had it fail... since the implementaton was never documented to the mods, no way to know why.
This is very interesting :D
I wonder if it was implemented retroactively, in that case my IP would be banned too from all the testing haha
Hehe.
A bad word filter on the possible signup names would help...
How is an IP ban effective? Can't they just get on another computer and make a new account with it?
Depends, bloom.
On what?
@BloomLocke367 they can but it would be a pain in the posterior for spammers to switch computer every time their account gets suspended xD
If that machine is on a banned network or not.
What do you mean? @e.mccormick
The connection the computer is on.
What if they use a public computer? Say in a school computer lab, or use one at a public library?
If the network goes though a NAT/PAT router, basic home router, then the entire network is banned. If it uses a proxy and the proxy has been banned, then it is banned. Otherwise, the change could work.
It's not like a spammer would put that much effort.
Who would spam OS at school, like really.
Chibi, one kid got suspended years ago for just that sort of thing.
Years ago! Hasn't happened then has it? Conq is the closest thing but he wasn't spam he was just plain obnoxious.
Hahahaha. I spend like the majority of my time at the library and I've always wondered how an IP ban would work for someone who uses the computers there.
Sorry for so many questions :D
There was one of the student admins that had IP access and used that to track down the source of one bad abuser. Ended up being a school. So they contacted the school, got the IT department there involved, and they tracked it to the machine when it was happening. Teen was using a library machine to do this... The other admins were not very happy with the student admin for doing it all on his own, but from what I gather, Farmdawg and Shadow did some similar things with official sanction.
Ohhhhh. Okay. That makes a lot more sense.
I have to go eat dinner, bye!
I tried really hard to understand all them comments.. lol I think I kinda get it now. Thanks guys c:
