Although fusion is an energetically favorable reaction for light nuclei, why doesn’t it occur under standard conditions on Earth? Fission reactions are always favored over fusion reactions. A large amount of energy must be invested into the reaction before it can occur. Atoms on Earth are generally too large to participate in fusion reactions. Fusion reactions usually do not produce sufficient energy to make them worthwhile.
