A steel ball and a plastic ball are thrown upward with the same initial velocity. Magneto unleashes a magnetic wave that gives the steel ball an additional horizontal velocity v while leaving the plastic ball unaffected. Which is most likely to happen? A. The steel ball will reach the ground first. B. The plastic ball will reach the ground first. C. Both balls will reach the ground at the same time. D. The time of flight depends on the balls’ masses. AND PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THANK YOU
WoW !!! I just loved this question :D So, here the mighty magneto just imparted an additional horizontal velocity to the metal ball which will leave its vertical velocity unaffected. So both the plastic and metal ball will travel for the same time t upwards and then the same time t downwards (Find out why?) and thus will reach the ground at same time (2t). \(\sf \color{red}{Then~what~just~magneto~did?}\) Magneto simply provided an extra horizontal velocity so that now the metal ball will have a parabolic trajectory instead of a straight line.
yess :)
