He is directly responsible for the Trail of Tears and the inhumane treatment of the peaceful, law abiding Cherokee people. The Cherokee people lived in houses, dressed in the fashions of the white man and contributed to the communities. When gold was discovered in the hills of Georgia and North Carolina, on Cherokee land, the Indian Removal Act was used to steal their land and their gold.
