ratio is 3:1, so for every 1 cup of red she added 3 blue

that answers a and b, and to get c you divide 48 by 6, which is $8

b asks how many cups of red paint must be added to 1 cup of blue paint to make purple paint. The answer to that is since the ratio of blue to red is 3:1 then the ration of red to blue is 1:3. So for each cup of blue you ad 1/3 of a cup of red.

think about it there are 4 parts in 1:3 so if the whole is 1 then 1 is equivalent to 1.4 and the 3 is equivalent to 3/4
