A rectangle has sides measuring (4x + 5) units and (3x + 10) units. Part A: What is the expression that represents the area of the rectangle? Show your work to receive full credit. (4 points) Part B: What are the degree and classification of the expression obtained in Part A? (3 points) Part C: How does Part A demonstrate the closure property for polynomials? (3 points)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(4x+5)(3x+10) DO YOU KNOW FOIL?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool, do it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so 12x^2 + 40x + 15x + 50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you get how I used foil to get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really... for area dont you just multiply the two together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When I multiplied the two together I got 12x^2+55x+50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@twistnflip

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perfect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is the expression for part a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok so for part b...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well the degree is the highest exponent, so 2 and classification I would assume quadratic, what classification do they want you to do. What did you learn

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it would be a polynomial degree of 2 because thats what we are learning about

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so part c...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perfect. now part c do you know what closure is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sounds familiar
