Every day during January, Joshua ran two miles. Let x represent the date in January and f(x) represent the total number of miles Joshua had run by the end of that date. I'm pretty sure that it is f(1)=60. Am I right?

OpenStudy (lfreeman1285):

Not quite, but you're on the right track. The equation would be f(x)=2x Because x is the number of days. There are 31 days in January, so it would be f(31)=62

OpenStudy (ohohaye):

I have to have f(1) in it though

OpenStudy (lfreeman1285):

This would mean that we would just plug in 1 for x, if I'm interpreting this correctly. f(1)=2(1) So he would have ran 2 miles by the first day of January.

OpenStudy (ohohaye):

OK, thank you
