OpenStudy (theopenstudyowl):

Show that the triangle with vertices a(0 2) b(-3 -1) and c(-4 3) is isosceles. Thanks!

OpenStudy (freckles):

use distance formula if you can 2 sides that have the same length then you have shown it is isosceles

OpenStudy (freckles):

find the distance between (0,2) and (-3,-1) find the distance between (-3,-1) and (-4,3) find the distance between (0,2) and (-4,3) see if you have 2 of the 3 distances are the same

OpenStudy (theopenstudyowl):

if I do, does that prove that it is an isosceles triangle?

OpenStudy (freckles):

yes again if you can show 2 sides have the same length then you have shown it is isosceles .

OpenStudy (theopenstudyowl):

ok awesome thanks!

OpenStudy (freckles):

np :)

OpenStudy (freckles):

@theopenstudyowl did you get through this?

OpenStudy (freckles):

are you stuck anywhere?

OpenStudy (theopenstudyowl):

yah, sqrt17 on two of the sides proves that it is an isosceles, thanks for the help too btw!

OpenStudy (freckles):

sounds great I got sqrt(17) for the last two segments I mentioned
