have you tried plugging into the distance formula
\[d_{\text{ distance from } (a,b) \text{ to } (c,d)} =\sqrt{(a-c)^2+(b-d)^2}\]
replace a with (4+t) replace c with (t-2) replace b with w replace d with (4-2w)
