This simplest answer is that art critics discuss and form opinions about artworks, and that's crucially all there is to it.

An art critique is simply an evaluation of an artwork. We take into account both the positives and negatives of a work.

When we do an art critique, we look at how well an artist used the elements of art and the principles of design. An art critique helps us get beyond our PERSONAL opinion of an artwork to examine the quality of the work.

Through that process, we may find that an artwork that we don't like does many things well. We can appreciate it for its technical strengths even if we personally don't like the painting.
