To really grasp this, you need to first figure out causes a persons self-esteem would be low in the first place. Once you figure that out, you can easily identify ways to raise ones self-esteem. Some factors that might influence someones self-esteem are as follows; your own thoughts and perceptions, how other people react to you, experiences at home, school, work and in the community, illness, disability or injury, culture or religion, role and status in society, and even media messages. Ways to alter your self-esteem are different more everyone, but common ways to do that are simple things like receiving a compliment here and there, eating healthy, or just dressing up nicely (clothes, makeup, etc.) Relationships with those close to you (parents, siblings, peers, teachers and other important contacts) are also important to your self-esteem. Self-esteem affects virtually every facet of your life. Maintaining a healthy, realistic view of yourself isn't about blowing your own horn. It's about learning to like and respect yourself, faults and all. Cites: http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/adult-health/in-depth/self-esteem/art-20047976?pg=2 -Kanra
