Need Help With number 28!! Fan And Medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (freckles):

let's do a question with integer numbers only molli purchased 9 applies for $9. What do you get when you divide that dollar amount by the number of apples your bought? What is $9/9=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1

OpenStudy (freckles):

what do you think that answer means

OpenStudy (freckles):

like say you were going to the market and the person tells you each apple costs a 1 dollar and you buy 9 apples how much do you think you are going to spend?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$9

OpenStudy (freckles):

right so doing $9/9 was to actually figure out how much you spend on each apple right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@freckles

OpenStudy (freckles):

how much does it cost for one month?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$14

OpenStudy (freckles):

well and to even do that one month we have to pay the membership fee which is 25 dollars so one month will cost us 14+25 right?

OpenStudy (freckles):

how much will do two months cost us ?

OpenStudy (freckles):

we never have to pay the membership fee again just that one time so doing another month will just be an addition 14 to the 14+25 correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (freckles):

one month is 14+25 two months is 14+14+25 three months is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure?

OpenStudy (freckles):

each month costs an additional 14 dollars

OpenStudy (freckles):

you are adding 14 each time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14+14++14+25?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14+14+14+14+25

OpenStudy (freckles):

so for one month we only have to pay 14+25 but if we do just two months the total amount we pay is 14+14+25 and if we just do three months the total amount we pay is 14+14+14+25 and if we just do four months the total amount we pay is 14+14+14+14+25 ... anyways.. before we continue another way to say 14+14 is 2(14) another way to say 14+14+14 is 3(14) another way to say 14+14+14+14=4(14) -- so let's resay what we have: so for one month we only have to pay 14+25 but if we do just two months the total amount we pay is 2(14)+25 and if we just do three months the total amount we pay is 3(14)+25 and if we just do four months the total amount we pay is 4(14)+25 -- so if we just do n month the total amount we pay is ? (before you answer this question look at the pattern above.. what number is the only thing that is changing)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the numbers 25?

OpenStudy (freckles):

but I see a 25 in every expression

OpenStudy (freckles):

look at the number in front of 14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhhh yeahh

OpenStudy (freckles):

remember 14 is 1(14) if we just do one month we have 1(14)+25 if we do two months we have 2(14)+25 if we do three months we have 3(14)+25 so if we n months we have . .............

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4(14)+25

OpenStudy (freckles):

well that is for 4 months what about for n months

OpenStudy (freckles):

instead of putting 4 where you put 4 put a...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n

OpenStudy (freckles):

yes

OpenStudy (freckles):

The algebraic expression you are looking for is ...

OpenStudy (freckles):

come on just change 4 to n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if we just do one month we have 1(14)+25 if we do two months we have 2(14)+25 if we do three months we have 3(14)+25 n(14)+25

OpenStudy (freckles):

you did it! if we just do one month we have 1(14)+25 if we do two months we have 2(14)+25 if we do three months we have 3(14)+25 so if we four months we have 4(14)+25 ... and if we do n months we have n(14)+25 n(14)+25 is the same as saying 14n+25 which is how it is normally written so you have f(n)=14n+25 where f represents the dollar amount you pay for doing n months.

OpenStudy (freckles):

for example if n=1 f(1)=14*1+25=14+25=39 this says if we just do one month at the gym we will have to pay 39 dollars f(2)=14*2+25=53 this says if we just do two months at the gym we will have to pay 53 dollars anyways they want you to find f(6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6f

OpenStudy (freckles):

no no...

OpenStudy (freckles):

f(n)=4n+25 so f(6)=4*6+25

OpenStudy (freckles):

this says if we do just six months we have to pay 4*6+25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f= 49 6

OpenStudy (freckles):

you mean f(6)=49 right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (freckles):

and yes if we just do six months we have to pay 49 dollars

OpenStudy (freckles):

darn

OpenStudy (freckles):

for some reason I change 14 to 4

OpenStudy (freckles):

f(n)=14n+25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow lol

OpenStudy (freckles):

f(6)=14(6)+25

OpenStudy (freckles):

lol maybe I got tired of writing the extra digit over and over :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f= 109 6

OpenStudy (freckles):

write it as f(6)=109

OpenStudy (freckles):

so this means if we just do 6 months we only have to pay 109 dollars

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (freckles):

Anyways the algebraic expression we used was f(n)=14n+25 where f represents the dollar amount of doing n months at the gym

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks alot bro @freckles
