.

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

the equation is x/120 + x/40 = 1, where x is the number of minutes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay then do i just solve it?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

yeah. if you'd like to get a better understanding of where the numbers come from, you can read this http://algebralab.org/Word/Word.aspx?file=Algebra_WorkingTogether.xml

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

anyway, back to our equation x/120 + x/40 = 1 do you know where to go from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you multiply everything by 120? to get rid of the fraction

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

yup!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+3x=1?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

x + 3x is right check the right side again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x+3x=120 4x=120 x=30 ?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

ah, whoops, I think I made a small mistake w/ the numbers > > should be x/120 + x/80 = 1 (since Tisha builds the box in 80 minutes, not 120)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk what to do now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u help me real fast im in school i have to go in a couple minutes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u just leave the steps for me to see?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

well, we can still multiply to get rid of the fraction x/120 + x/80 = 1 let's multiply by 240 instead of 120 2x + 3x = 240 5x = 240 x = 48 min

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k thanks
