solve the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5x + 2y = 19 x - 2y = -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for x and y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=\[2y \div 7\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait that's wrong

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

5x + 2y = 19 x - 2y = -1 ------------add 6x = 18 -- divide both sides by 6 x = 3 now sub 3 in for x in either of the original equations to find y x - 2y = -1 3 - 2y = -1 -2y = -1 - 3 -2y = -4 y = 2 check... 5x + 2y = 19 5(3) + 2(2) = 19 15 + 4 = 19 19 = 19 (correct) so x = 3 and y = 2 any questions at all ??
