OpenStudy (spring98):

Choose the best description for the real number 34/3 . A. Irrational, because it is a fraction B. Irrational, because it is a repeating decimal C. Rational, because it is a fraction D. Rational, because it is a terminating decimal

OpenStudy (spring98):

i forgot how to do these

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

34/3 = 11.33333 (repeating)...repeating decimals are rational..and it is not a terminating decimal...so I would have to say C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rational numbers are those defined as numbers that can be defined by a fraction, and when they are divided out, they either terminate or repeat. When you divide 34 by 3, you get 11.333333333333 going on forever. One of your choices is that it is irrational because it is repeating but irrational numbers do not repeat. So it is not b. Irrational numbers cannot be defined perfectly by a fraction, so it's not a either. Rational numbers do terminate, but yours doesn't so it's not d. So, what is it then? ; ) ill say C. Rational, because it is a fraction
