Cause: Farmers weren't able to pay the taxes and debts so the government was taking their farms away from them. One farmer, Daniel Shay, said that since there was no official court, then their farms couldn't officially be taken away. So, he gathered a group of angry protesting farmers and started burning down courthouses.
