Beyond the topic what does your essay argue? Do you support the gun laws? Do you disagree with the gun laws? What views you have and the way you feel about this topic should be included in the introduction.
In today's world guns are commonly seen and it's not uncommon for children to think it's okay to play with guns, therefore the gun laws in America are a positive thing to help keep kids safe.

In the US something like 99% of the population own guns legally, and lord knows how many illegally. The murder rates are extremely high compared to European countries where it is extremely hard to be allowed to own a fire arm and there are strict laws of how and where the weapons may be used. In the US almost anybody can purchase a weapon with a very general background check, and the laws for how and where the weapon may be used are very very relaxed. I think that should help support an argument :)
