Make up your own “Guess My Number” games with your team and be ready to share them with the class. Make at least one game that has only one answer. Also make one that works for all numbers. Can you create a game that does not work for any number?
so i get how to make one just a normal one but i do not know how to make one that can work for any number or one that cant work for any number
If I understand this correctly, this game is a game where you tell someone to pick a number and not tell you. Then you ask the person to do some calculations and give you a final answer. Then you guess the number. Is this correct?
an example is "when i tripple my number and add 5 i get 11" and the answere would be 2 because 2x3=6 and 6+5=11
@mathstudent55
did this the other way. you think of a number I tell you what to do series of manipulations then I tell you what the answer is.
Start with a variable for the unknown number. The come up with some operations to do with the number. Then simplify the expression so that you can easily find the number.
can u give an example
For example, you say "think if a number but don't tell me" Person thinks of 5 To you this is x. Tell him "multiply it by 5" He gets 5 * 5 = 25 You you it's 5x Tell him "add 10" He gets 25 + 10 = 35 To you it's 5x + 10 Tell him "Now divide by 5" He gets 35/5 = 7 You have (5x + 10)/5 = x + 2 Tell him "now subtract 2" He gets 7 - 2 = 5 You have x + 2 - 2 = x Now you tell him "the number you picked was 5" This game will work with any number because we are doing calculations to the number x that in the end result in x.
ohhhh so u dont have to have a number it can just be x like 7x if i were to say 35 or 21
@mathstudent55
The person chooses a number and does all calculations with that number. The person asking does not know what the number is, so to us it's x. We purposely set up a number of calculations that result in the number being the final answer.
This was just an example. Any set of calculations that results in the final answer being x, the same number chosen by the player of the game, will also work.
wait so how do u do it to make it work with any number? @mathstudent55
or make it impossible
We just did. You can try any number in the game I made above and the answer will always be the number the player chose.
so if i said when i triple my number and add 17 minus 16= x that works?
@mathstudent55
Start with x. Triple the number: 3x Add 17: 3x + 17 Subtract 2: 3x + 15 Divide by 3: x + 5 Now ask for the number. Since the number is x + 5, subtract 5 and you have the person's number.
i dont get this it needs to work with ALL numbers
@mathstudent55
can u just give me the answer
i dont usually ask for that but i really need it
It does. Pick a number: 10 Triple it: 30 Add 17: 47 Subtract 2: 45 Divide by 3: 15 Now you mentally subtract 5: 10 You tell the player "your number was 10" Pick a number: 6 Triple it: 18 Add 17: 35 Subtract 2: 33 Divide by 3: 11 You mentally subtract 5: 6 Tell the player: "your number was 6.
This is a game that works for any number. The one above also worked for every number. I don;t know one that doesn't work for any number.
