Has anyone ever read Hamlet?? Was he really crazy or acting?
This is my favorite question to ever be posted here. In Hamlet, the only people who though Hamlet was mad were the king and his henchmen, and even they weren't sure. Sure, he was nutty, but he wasn't nearly as nutty as Ophelia. There are plenty of examples of how he could be insane, and how he couldn't be, but that's the question, isn't it? Hamlet himself said, "I essentially am not in madness-" Hamlet thinks he is doing the right thing and responding to a higher moral order, so he knew what he was doing, but at the same time, everything he was doing was just a little bit over the top, pointing towards him not being the most mentally stable. There isn't a definite answer to your question, whether he was insane or sane, it can be taken either way and is all up to what the reader sees him as. "To be, or not to be, that is the question." Seems to fit this rather well, don't you think? Research it a bit more, and then take your pick.
