when using the binomial formula what is the correct expansion of (x+y)^4

OpenStudy (misty1212):

lol same as it is without the "binomial formula" but we can do it for sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the answer choices are long.

OpenStudy (misty1212):

the first term will be \(x^4\) the next one will be something times \(x^3y\) the third one will be something times \)x^2y^2\) the four will have a \(xy^3\) and the last will be \(y^4\)

OpenStudy (misty1212):

yeah it is long all right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you :D

OpenStudy (misty1212):

the coefficients you can get from the fourth row of pascal's triangle http://www.mathsisfun.com/pascals-triangle.html

OpenStudy (misty1212):

you see it is \(1,4,6,4,1\)

OpenStudy (misty1212):

so final answer will be \[x^4+4 x^3 y+6 x^2 y^2+4 x y^3+y^4\] you want to check it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i go it. thank you!!
