OpenStudy (llroberts43):

I'm stuck on a word problem. Suppose that it costs $2916.7 to own and operate a mini van if you drive 5000 miles a year. Suppose that it costs $583.3 to own and operate a mini van if you drive 1000 miles a year. Let y represent total cost y(in dollars) and let x represent the number of miles driven. a) Find the slope of the line passing through the two points given. b)What are the units of the slope? c) What does the slope mean in terms of the word problem?

OpenStudy (surry99):

Have you tried to graph the two points?

OpenStudy (llroberts43):

Well I thought I was supposed to find the slope, so to do that I took 2916.7-583.3 and 5000-1000 and got 2333.4/4000 = 0.58 but I don't know what to do next.
