Help please. A wine shop buys a French Chardonnay for $6.50 and then marks up the price 80%. What is the wine shop’s sale price for the French Chardonnay?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got $1.30 is that correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh my

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if they sold it for $1.30 they would lose money one every bottle!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it didnt make any sense lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to increase a number by 80% you can do one of two things a) find 80% of it then add to the original number or, what is easier, is b) multiply it by \(100\%+80\%=180\%=1.8\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i.e. with a calculator compute \[6.50\times 1.8\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 11. 70?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i actually have no idea how you came up with $1.30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

$11.70 at least makes some sense right? also it is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me either. it makes sense, thank you. :)
