OpenStudy (melodious):

why are lysosomes called "suicide bags" of the cell?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Due to their autolysis right ?

OpenStudy (melodious):

what is autolysis?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

self digestion

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Due to their role in autolysis, \(Ofcourse, You~are~Right~!!\) @Rushwr it is , more commonly known as self-digestion, refers to the destruction of a cell through the action of its own enzymes. It may also refer to the digestion of an enzyme by another molecule of the same enzyme.

OpenStudy (melodious):

yeah .... autolysis when the cell get damaged

OpenStudy (rushwr):

hey have chemicals in them that digest the wastes and other bad organelles. When the cell dies the lysosmes work swiftly with their chemicals and digest the dead cell. Without lysosomes living organisms would become filled with dead cells.that,s y lysosomes called suicidal bags.

OpenStudy (melodious):

i get i t

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Awesome :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's because the materials to be digested are taken into the lysosome themselves and after digestion, what is left of it is extruded out of the cell, after this purging what remains of the lysosome? nothing. So, it has killed itself along, thus committing suicide.
