Problem: 1/2x-8=-3/2x+2

Answer: -13.3

If wrong please explain why.

1/2x - 8 = -3/2x + 2 -- get rid of fractions by multiplying by common denominator of 2
x - 16 = -3x + 4
x + 3x = 4 + 16
4x = 20
x = 20/4
x = 5

(1/2x) - 8 = (-3/2x) + 2
or
1/(2x - 8) = -3/(2x + 2)

just remember, if you have a problem like this...with fractions, you can get rid of the fractions by multiplying everything by the common denominator
