Im so lost on this. Can come please help/explain this to me? Im so new on this subject. In 2000 Michigan had a population of 9,938,444. The number of people living in Michigan decreased by 0.6% in 2010. What was Michigan’s approximate population in 2010?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

First express 0.6% as a decimal, which gives 0.006. To find the multiplier for the original population, subtract 0.006 from 1, giving: 1.000 - 0.006 = 0.994 Now multiply the value of the original population by 0.994: Population in 2010 is given by: \[\large 9,938,444\times0.994 = you\ can\ calculate\]
