Just plug in (1/1000 km) for meter, and (1/3600 hr) for seconds. 2.988 x 10^8 m/sec = 2.988 x 10^8 * (1/1000 km) / (1/3600 hr) Multiply by 1/1000 and divide by 1/3600. Which is equivalent to dividing by 1000 and multiplying by 3600. By the way, the value 2.988 x 10^8 m/sec is not correct. To 4 significant figures, it is 2.998 x 10^8 m/sec.
