you have to close a question in order to ask a new one, so unless they have a new question their current one can stay up as long as the asker feels it requires more.

@amistre64 i agree with this . but i'm saying that if you get best response then there no need leave this question in open section so that the unanswered question can easily get the answer . :) i said because when i open the question and then i see that this question is done why it is here to waste my time . xD

but it is the asker who decides that the question has been satisfactorily answered.

Anyone can click the 'best response' button to give a medal ... but just because a random stranger likes something on someone elses post/thread ... does not mean that the question has been answered to the askers specific needs.

Therefore, just because a post has a 'best response' awarded in it, does not mean that the question has been satisfied to the original asker.

It depends on the question, if it needs more addition, etc. You can't really control what users and mods do, it's their own jurisdiction :)
