. Round to the nearest whole number. 44.8 45 448 40 44

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

are you trying to round 44.8 to the nearest whole number ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes . Round to the nearest whole number. 44.8 45 448 40 44

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your rounding 44.8

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

look at the next number...the one after 44....the 8...if it is 5 or above, you round up to 45, but if it is 4 or below, you keep it the same and it would be 44. So what do you think ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you tell me

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

just this once.....44.8 would round up to 45

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ound to the nearest whole number. 75.7 757 76 70 75

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

same way....75.7.....look at the number right after the decimal....the 7....since it is above 5, we round up making it 76....understand ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Round to the nearest whole number. 46.71 47 46 46.7 50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

you have to try some of these. Look at the next number after the decimal...it is 7, it is above 5, so you round up to the next whole number. So what do you think the answer is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here is my anther queRound to the nearest whole number. 46.71 47 46 46.7 50

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

that is the one I just gave you an explanation for.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

46

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

No.. since the number right after the decimal is 7...it is above 5, so you would round UP making your answer 47

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Round to the nearest whole number. 75.5 755 70 76 75

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

examples : 45.2 --- the 2 is below 4 so the whole number stays the same...rounds to 45 45.6 -- the 6 is above 5 so the whole number would round up to 46 45.5 -- if the number to the right of the decimal is 5 or above, you round up making it again equal 46 do you understand any of this ?? If the number right after the decimal is 5 or above, you round the whole number up and if it is 4 or below, the whole number stays the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i dont

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

so...75.5......the whole number you have is 75...but the number after the decimal is 5, so you would round up to the next whole number, which is 76

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

do you know what whole numbers are ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Round to the nearest whole number. 53.21 53 50 53.2 54

OpenStudy (anonymous):

54

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

53.21....what is your whole number ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

listen.......53.21....what is your whole number ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

53

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

correct....now you look at the number after the decimal...it is a 2.....is 2 less then 5 ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

because if it is less then 5, you do not round up...the whole number would stay the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Round to the nearest whole number. 27.6 28 20 276 27

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

53.21 would round to 53 because that 2 after the decimal is less then 5. If it would have been 53.6.....being that the 6 is above 5, then it would round up to 54

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

27.6.....the 6 is above 5, so your whole number rounds up to the next whole number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whats the answer

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

whats the next whole number after 27 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

28

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

. Round to the nearest whole number. 51.38 50 51.4 52 51

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

51.38.....the number after the decimal is 3.....so you would not round up to the next whole number...the whole number would stay the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Round to the nearest whole number. 76.39 76.4 80 77 76

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

the whole number is either gonna round up, or it is gonna stay the same....it does not round down to the lower whole number 76.39......the 3 is below 5, so the whole number stays the same...rounded = 76

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Round to the nearest whole number. 71.1 71 72 711 70

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am sorry iam kepping you this long

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Round to the nearest whole number. 71.1 71 72 711 70

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

look at the number after the decimal and tell me if it is above 5 or below 4 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

below 4

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

that means the whole number does not change.....it rounds to 71

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

if it was 5 or above, it would round to the next whole number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Round to the nearest tenth. 5.152 5.15 5.2 5 5.1

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

whats the number after the decimal ? If it is below 4, the whole number stays the same...if it is 5 or above, it would round to the next whole number. So what do you think ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats answer

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

wait...you are rounding to the nearest tenths......so now we look at the number in the tenths place...that is 1....you want to then look at the number to the right of that, it is 5....so you would round up making it 5.2

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I am sorry but I have to go...good luck
