will medal and fan!!! Maya took two flights to travel home from Bangkok, Thailand. She traveled 8,276 miles from Bangkok to Los Angeles on the first flight. She traveled 2,451 miles from Los Angeles to New York on the second flight. About how far did Maya travel by plane? Round each number to the nearest thousand to find the answer.

OpenStudy (goose.):

Well for the first flight, it was 8.276 miles, so we round that to 8,000

OpenStudy (goose.):

The second flight, 2,451 miles would be rounded down to 2,000

OpenStudy (goose.):

We would add those together to get 10,000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Altogether, these come out as 10,627 if you add them. From there, as the hundreds place is above 5, you bump the whole number up to 11,000. (Goose might be right here, and I'm just having a comprehension issue)

OpenStudy (goose.):

Or for the numerically correct answer, we would use 8,276 + 2451 to get 10,627 Miles, which would round up to 11,000 Miles.

OpenStudy (goose.):

I don't know what teacher gave you this problem but it's an awful one, it has asked you to round each number, setting you more than 600 off in an equation that only goes up to 10,000...

OpenStudy (goose.):

That's a whopping 6% margin of error,

^^

I agree with Goose lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tricky. But to be safe, go with 10,000 because it does say each number

i agree
