OpenStudy (darthvader2900):

What is the value of the expression? (-4) to the 4th power

OpenStudy (goose.):

These ones are a bit more tricky, as a negative multiplied by a negative is a positive,

OpenStudy (goose.):

\[(-4)^4\] You do mean this right?

OpenStudy (darthvader2900):

yes

OpenStudy (goose.):

Okay, so we would start of like so, -4 x -4= 16, because - x - = +, then we would do 16 x -4 = -64 because a postive multiplied by a negative is a negative,

OpenStudy (goose.):

Where can you go from there?

OpenStudy (darthvader2900):

then -64 times 4

OpenStudy (goose.):

-64 times -4, always remember you're multiplying by a negative,

OpenStudy (goose.):

So that would give you +256, again, because - x - = +

OpenStudy (darthvader2900):

right.

OpenStudy (goose.):

That there would be your answer,

OpenStudy (darthvader2900):

Okay, thank you.

OpenStudy (goose.):

Thank you for working it out with me,

OpenStudy (darthvader2900):

I will post new thread.
