Question

I'm supposed to choose 4 cultural universals and explain why they are important.
Can someone please look at my paragraphs and tell me if they are good enough? I'm in 8th grade, so sorry if my writing sucks.

Transportation is important universally, because each culture has a different way of travelling. In the USA, most people will use a bus or car, but in Japan most people will walk or take a train. Many people from different cultures travel differently, this makes each culture different from each other.Oh crap, my text is too long. I have to type the rest up in another question or reply.

Language allows people to communicate with each other. If there had been no languages around, we would probably not have been able to have cultures, because no one would be able to communicate. Languages are important because they allowed us to communicate out different beliefs, making it possible to have cultures.

Housing worldwide protects all of us from the dangers outside. If we were ti travel all around the world, houses in different cultures would look different from each other. These houses represent the different environments each of there cultures live in.

The laws in each culture are different. The way a culture may run depends on the government and the laws, Some countries may be less or more strict than others. The government and laws control the cultures and makes them different from each other, rather good or bad.

For the paragraph on transportation, you could talk about why different cultures travel the way that they do. Do the Japanese travel by train because few own cars? If so, why? Give more examples of different cultures as well as why they travel the specified way.

For the language paragraph, try to avoid using the word(s) "I think" or "I believe", as well as "probably", "maybe", "perhaps", etc. It deducts from the credibility of your information. Act like you are confident about the point that you're stating. You could also give an example. Are there cultures in today's society who are segregated by a language barrier?

Likewise, give examples of different types of housing, and elaborate on how environment and habitat affect housing.

As for your paragraph on laws, it is really quite vague. You need more concrete details. You could write about how religion affects the laws of a society, such as how women's rights/suffrage, gay rights, racial equality, etc in a more religiously oriented culture compare to a less religious culture.
