Some athletes have as little as 3.0% body fat. If such a person has a body mass of 72 kg , how many pounds of body fat does that person have

OpenStudy (ciarán95):

Hi @jamie253 ....... Welcome to OpenStudy! :D So, we want to find out the number of pounds of body fat present when it composes 3% of a 72 kg athlete. To do this, we need to: 1.) Find how many kg of body fat is present. We know that it's 3% of the athlete's total mass of 72 kg, so: 100% of their mass = 72 kg 1% of their mass = 72 kg / 100 3% of their mass = (72 kg / 100)(3) I'll leave it to you to finish calculating this one yourself.... 2.) Convert this value in kg to pounds. Having looked this up online, I found that: 1 kg = 2.0462 pounds So, we multiply 2.0462 by whatever our fat mass is in kg to obtain the converted value in pounds. Hope that helped you out! :)
