Please help explain this to me.....
why was my question closed?
@yomamabf, your answer is correct. I don't know who closed it.
No i need to know why it's correct because I guessed.
Ratio of the number of widgets sold by company E and D in 2006 is 8 to 2 respectively. In other words, company E sold 4 times as many widgets as company D. Company D sold 1.2 million widgets in 2006. If we multiply 1.2 million by 4, we get 4.8 million or 4,800,000, the amount sold by company E.
what about C can't we do something with C?
In general if the ration between two numbers, for example C and E, is 5:8 you it is true that: \[\frac{C}{E} = \frac{5}{8} \] You can read off C from the graph and solve for E. I.e: \[5E = 8*C = 8*3million = 24 million \] dividing by 5 gives 4.8 million, the same result. The way the problem is written you can solve it two ways. You can use the ratio between C and E, or the ratio between D and E. Using D and E leads to easier calculation, but both give the same result.
