Write and graph an equation to represent the situation: You have a $30 gift card that will allow you to purchase 5 albums.
(I thought it would be 5x=30, x=6, but the answer is y=1/6x...)

5x = 30 is the equation for if you were solving how many albums can be purchased with $30 and only $30

\(y=\frac{ 1 }{ 6 }x\) tells how many albums you can buy for every amount of money within your domain

you need two variables, y and x, because both the amount of money and the amount of albums purchased can vary.

It looks like they let x be the amount of money and y be the number of albums that can be bought. The slope is 1/6.
\[slope=\frac{ rise }{ run }=\frac{ \Delta y }{ \Delta x }=\frac{ 5~albums }{ 30~dollars }=\frac{ 1 }{ 6 }~albums~per~dollar\]
