I will upload a picture for these questions. 7.) Which best represents a solid element? 8.) Which best represents a homogeneous mixture of an element and a compound? 9.) Which best represents a gaseous compound? 10.)Which best represents a heterogeneous mixture of two elements?

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

Without a picture, a solid will mainly be something where there is a high degree of order. Molecules are arranged in an orderly fashion.

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

A solid element; think about this an element contains all atoms that are of the same identity that are highly ordered so which would you think a solid element would be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thinks its B

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

Exactly

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

Now for the gaseous compound: think about it this way, gases are free of any intermolecular forces so they will be able to move around independently which one suits this description

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 confuses me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well so do the rest

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would it be A?

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

9 is A but for the reasons i stated earlier about gases, can you picture why this would be true?

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

For your reference Homogeneous = means a mixture that's uniform Heterogeneous means a mixture that's not uniform

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because they move more freely than the other diagrams?

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

The one stating an element and a compound heterogenous I believe would be E because the single atom is more likely to be the element.

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

Sorry I think 9 is C because it's a compound but the reasons still hold true

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

Yes you're correct, I'm not sure about 10 I'm debating whether it should be D since you clearly have two different types of atoms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 9 is A and they confuse me. I have two more questions for this but didn't post them

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

I want to say C because a compound contains more than one element, you see how those two atoms are different yet they are bonded to each other? I thought it was A originally I guess that would be an element. Sorry Hope this has helped you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's okay and thank you so much for your help. :)
