What did the crusades accompish?

The First Crusade had the purist motives, regain Jerusalem from the "Mohammedans". The Fourth never reached the Holy Land, as the Venetians who supplied the transport ships persuaded the Crusaders to attack the Eastern Orthodox Christian City of Byzantium instead.
The Fifth saw Jerusalem being surrendered to Emperor Frederick II, but the Christians lost it again, and eventually they were all driven out of the Holy Land.
The Crusades only produced one long term result. An historical racial hatred of Muslims toward Christians.
