Marble 1 was red MArble 2 was not red Marble 3 was blue Marble 4 was the same color as marble 1 Marble 5 was the same color as marble 2 A jar contained 10 marbles-some red,some white, and some blue. The information above is about 5 marbles that were drawn from the jar. IF x is the total number of blue marbles drawn, which of the following statements must be true? a) The only possible value is x is 1 b)The only possible value is x is 2 c)The only possible value is x is 3 d)The only possible value is x are 1 and 2 e)The only possible value is x is 1 and 3
Marble 2 is either a white or a blue If its a blue then Marble 5 will be a blue making x = 3 If marble 2 is white then marble 5 must also be white making x = 1
so what is the only possible option?
Oh! he/she has gone..
sorry the connection failed
can u explain @welshfella
some hlp
@imqwerty
We wish to find which of the five marbles could be blue (be careful about "which of the following statements MUST be true" followed by "possibilities," it only asks for all possible values). We know that marble 1 cannot be red. Marble 2 may or may not be blue. Marble 3 is obviously blue. Marble 4 cannot be blue because marble 1 is red. Marble 5 is the same color as marble 2, which could be blue. Here, we note that marble 3 is blue and marbles 2 and 5 are either both blue or both a different, non-blue color. Hence, the only possible values of x are 1 and 3.
why marble 1cannot be red its write was red above
@imqwerty
the answer is e but why
marble 1 is red
i saw it here :P - http://www.algebra.com/algebra/homework/word/travel/Travel_Word_Problems.faq.question.462855.html
marble 2 must be blue or white because there are only 3 colurs red white and blue
wt this link
yes u r right
but what is that link @imqwerty
if marble 2 is blue then marble 5 must also be blue and marble 3 is blues so that makes 3 blues
someone had asked same question nd that link has the answer to it :)
but if marble 2 is white then marble 5 is also white so that leaves one blue marble - marble 3 e is correct
i read the answer on the link but he write it the first marble not red but why
@imqwerty
thats a mistake. Marble 1 is red
yea
we are all human and sometimes make mistakes.
ok u r right thank u i understand @welshfella
u r the best
but 1 and 3 mean 1 or 3 1+3
ty - but i also make mistakes sometimes...
:)
@welshfella
but 1 and 3 mean 1 or 3 1+3
1 or 3
ok but the question is 10 marbles the answer u do is 5 marbles
Yes but only 5 marbles are drawn
- we are not concerned with the other 5.
yea he write it like this and write that he want 10 not 5
ok but why we do not put the other 5
A jar contained 10 marbles-some red,some white, and some blue. The information above is about 5 marbles that were drawn from the jar.
Don't worry about why there are a total of 10 marbles . That does not affect the answer . He might well have put 15 marbles - the answer would still be the same.
ok thank u @welshfella u r the best
