Answer check?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The quadratic functions f(x) and g(x) are described as follows: f(x) = −2x2 + 9 x g(x) 0 −5 1 3 2 11 3 3 4 −5 Which statement best compares the maximum value of the 2 functions? It is the same for both functions. f(x) has a greater maximum value than g(x). g(x) has a greater maximum value than f(x). The maximum values cannot be determined.

I think its D

OpenStudy (loser66):

why D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because they are infinite right? they just keep going?

OpenStudy (loser66):

obviously, when x =2, g(x) =11 is maximum value of g

OpenStudy (loser66):

The maximum value of f is defined by finding out the vertex of parabola, x = -b /2a =0, and when x =0, y =9, hence the maximum value of f is 9. Compare the two, which one is greater?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

g

OpenStudy (loser66):

yup

thank you
