A company produces accessories for smart phones and tablets. The profit on each smart phone case is $2, and the profit on each tablet case is $3. The company made a profit of $1,200 on the cases last month. The equation 2x + 3y = 1,200 represents the company's profit from cases last month, where x is the number of smart phone cases sold and y is the number of tablet cases sold.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Change the equation into slope-intercept form. Identify the slope and y-intercept of the equation. Be sure to show all of your work. Describe how you would graph this line using the slope-intercept method. Be sure to write in complete sentences. Write the equation in function notation. Explain what the graph of the function represents. Be sure to use complete sentences. Graph the function using one of the following two options below. On the graph, make sure to label the intercepts. Suppose in the next month, the total profit on smart phone cases and tablet cases is $1,500. The profit amounts are the same, $2 for smart phone case and $3 for the tablet case. In a paragraph of at least three sentences, explain how the graphs of the functions for the two months are the same and how they are different. Be sure to use complete sentences. Below is a graph that represents the total profits for a third month. Write the equation of the line that represents this graph. Show your work or explain how you determined the equations. graph of line going through ordered pairs (0, 300) and (450, 0)

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

Do you know what a "slope-intercept form" is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know the first one is y= -2/3x +400 yes

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

Oh okay, do you need help from there on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

" Write the equation in function notation. Explain what the graph of the function represents. Be sure to use complete sentences." An example of something in function notation is: f(x) = 2y - 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

So basically, the function notation of this problem is f(x) or g(x) = -2/3 + 400

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

Function notation is replacing the y with f(x) or g(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, whats the difference between f(x) and g(x)

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

There isn't really a difference, unless you are graphing multiple functions. Usually you start off with f(x), and if there is another, g(x), it can go all the way until z, like h(x), etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

Have you identified the slope and the y-intercept?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2/3 and 400

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

Ok, just making sure. Next part: graphing.

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

The " Suppose in the next month, the total profit on smart phone cases and tablet cases is $1,500. The profit amounts are the same, $2 for smart phone case and $3 for the tablet case. In a paragraph of at least three sentences, explain how the graphs of the functions for the two months are the same and how they are different. Be sure to use complete sentences. " Is this part of the graphing process for this problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.. I think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually, no i just reread the intrustions

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

Oh ok, so do you still need help with the graphing? Sorry for my absence, someone was bothering me on Instagram, and I needed a sandwich.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, um I think I can get it from here thank you!

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

Ok, also, here is a good software you can use for graphing. It's called Geogebra and can do a lot of stuff.

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

Here is an example.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (iwillrektyou):

No problem, let me know if you need any more help in the future.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the X intercept 550? @iwillrektyou

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need help with these... Suppose in the next month, the total profit on smart phone cases and tablet cases is $1,500.
