I would think if you were just writing about serial killers, it may be a bit boring and you could run out of ideas quickly, or just repeat the same thing over and over with a different person each time. Instead, why not research why serial killers are serial killers from a psychological standpoint? Research what can make a serial killer commit murder, why they feel the need to do it (mental illness, stress, etc.), and include a few of the most famous serial killers of all time. I believe it would make for quite the interesting paper, and it would meet the "research" criteria. Good luck and happy writing! :)
