OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

So there was some stormy weather. I managed to get some nice pics from a gas station. Worked out well enough. Tried to get the signs out of the cloud shots... but now I am not sure if I could have left them in. Oh, and the rainbow factory worked out really well. If I had gotten my rig on I might have been able to possition better on the other side of a hand rail, but it did OK!

Elsa213 (elsa213):

YES! You finally made a new post. ^.^

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Some of these are using HDR to try and get more color out of it, but I do not see much difference between them and the other shots.

Elsa213 (elsa213):

Neither do I. I like the first picture :D

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I only get raws for non-HDR, and frankly the most stunning one in the clouds is 487, which is NOT HDR. 488, 489, 492, 493, and 494 are HDR.

Elsa213 (elsa213):

But I still like the first 1 ^.^ If you give it a filter.... It would be awesome :D

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yah, it also has the least obstructions from lights and signs. So they would be easy to edit out with a quck crop or even a little fudging it with copypaste nearby cloud.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

In 487, the light in the pic actually works... it adds some perspective of size by being dwarfed.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

In the rainbow pics, the raws offer the ability to white ballance more. Get rid of some of the gloom.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Here is 495 with some color tweaks to bring out more detail. I adjusted the tone, brightness, and contrast. By making it brighter you lose dark areas, but by also tweaking the contrast I help retain some more dark so it prevents a washed out look. Instead, I get a more vivid picture with less shadows. Now, the shadows do let the rainbow bee the brightness in the gloom, but the detail sets a different scene. So it really comes down to a choice of what you want the picture to portray.

OpenStudy (bloomlocke367):

I just took some pictures yesterday for a contest.. Not sure if they're any good. Definitely not like yours o.o

imqwerty (imqwerty):

really nice pictures :)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Elsa, I did a filter in pink, but deleted sky areas form it by color selecitng. This got a bit much, so I painted back in a few parts. Then I did a blue overlay to help bring out the sky more. Finally, I did one that I added a little green here and there with. All of them are soft light overlays that are mostly transparent and I did blur them to soften the hard overlap areas. I did not crop it, but that is really pretty easy to do at this point... or other methods of cleaning the pic.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

About time we got a new post :D

Active skies never cease to amaze me :3

This is a rainbow I somehow managed to shoot just before it faded from my view. >_<

Somehow my phone converted it to a smaller size... :/
