Logarithmic functions. Super lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y = \log _{3}(x+1)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to graph it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but its so confusing because my points are not matching up :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for my y points i picked -2, -1 0, 1 and 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so basically the equation is x = 3^y - 1

OpenStudy (madhu.mukherjee.946):

@kropot72 help her!!!!!!

OpenStudy (kropot72):

For x values of -2 and -1 the value of the expression is indeterminate, the reason being that the log of a negative value is indeterminate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (kropot72):

I calculated the following points: (0, 0) , (1, 0.631) , (2, 1) .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you just randomly picked them?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

I used x = 0, x = 1 and x =2. You can calculate more points if you wish.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm, okay thanks!

OpenStudy (kropot72):

You're welcome :)
