Which of the following relations is a function? { (1, 2), (1, 3), (1, 4), (1, 5) } { (1, 3), (2, 3), (4, 3), (9, 3) } { (5, 4), (-6, 5), (4, 5), (4, 0) } { (6, -1), (1, 4), (2, 3), (6, 1) }

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

a function WILL NOT have 2 or more x values that are the same. They can have more then 1 y value the same, just not the x's. So look at your answer choices and see which one does not have repeating x terms...that will be your function.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

For instance, look at your first answer choice... your points are set up like (x,y).....and as you can see, all of the sets of numbers have an x value of 1.....repeating x values....NOT A FUNCTION.
