2) y+1.2y+1.2z A) 2.4yz B)1.3y+1.2z C)1.2y^2 + 1.2z D)2.2y+1.2z

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

Just a matter of combining like terms. Do you know what like terms are ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

For example : 2x + 3x -- these are like terms, they have exactly the same letters...you can add/subtract these. you cannot add/subtract unlike terms. these are unlike terms... 2x + 3y......or 4x + 5.... so we need to find our like terms and add/subtract them. Can you find the like terms ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

no... y + 1.2y + 1.2z like terms have the same exact letter...what are the like terms ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

quit guessing... let me explain this one for you.... like terms have the exact same letters... y and 1.2y are you like terms. And whenever you have a letter without a number, it is 1. So we have 1y + 1.2y .....added = 2.2y. Now we cannot forget about our z term...just because it has no like terms to add to it, we still have to put it in there. So our answer is : 2.2y + 1.2z questions ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

sure thing :)
