MEDAL!! (refer to the toss of a pair of dice) what is the probability that the total number of dots appearing on top is not 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the probability that the total number of dots appearing on top is 5=4/36 so the probability that the total number of dots appearing on top is not 5=?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The sample space has 36 possible combinations of numbers. These can be set out in column form as follows: 6,6 5,6 4,6 3,6 2,6 1,6 6,5 5,5 4,5 3,5 2,5 1,5 6,4 5,4 4,4 3,4 2,4 1,4 6,3 5,3 4,3 3,3 2,3 1,3 6,2 5,2 4,2 3,2 2,2 1,2 6,1 5,1 4,1 3,1 2,1 1,1 Count the number of pairs with the dots adding up to 5. Then subtract that number from 36. The required probability is the result divided by 36.

so 4/36?
