If there are 10 dear counted in a 1 km (to the second power) area of southern Lancaster county , what would be the estimated deer population in a 10 km(to the second power) area that includes this sample of land?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

"10 dear counted in a 1 km" we have this ratio `10 deer : 1 km`

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

we can multiply both parts of the ratio by 10 why? because we want the `1 km` to turn into `10 km` so we have `10 deer : 1 km` `10*10 deer : 10*1 km` `100 deer : 10 km` therefore we estimate 100 deer in 10 square km
