the 4 memoirs cub pilot, barrio boy, no gumption and i know why the caged bird sings' are all written in first person. why is it important to be in first person?

A memoir is a nice way of saying "autobiography". In order for the memoir to have more credibility or to seem more vivid when talking about certain experiences then it should be written as first person.
A clear example would most likely be when you tell a story, something that happened to you. You are the one that experienced it therefore you say "I saw, I ate..."
